Hybrid Instrumentation in Lumbar Spinal Fusion

چکیده
Spondylodesis with transpedicular screw fixation is widely used for the treatment of different spine pathologies. Yet a potential conflict exists between the immediate benefit and later consequences or complications of this technique. The term adjacent segment degeneration is used to describe radiologic changes seen at levels adjacent to a previous spine fusion, which do not necessarily correlate with any clinical findings. Adjacent segment disease (ASD) involves the development of new clinical symptoms that are compatible with

Evaluation of a Hybrid Dynamic Stabilization and Fusion System in the Lumbar Spine: A 10 Year Experience
INTRODUCTION The development of adjacent-segment disease is a recognized consequence of lumbar fusion surgery. Posterior dynamic stabilization, or motion preservation, techniques have been developed which theoretically decrease stress on adjacent segments following fusion. This study presents the experience of using a hybrid dynamic stabilization and fusion construct for degenerative lumbar spi...
متن کاملFrequency of Instrumentation in Lumbar Spinal Stenosis and Lumbar Disc Herniation
Background & Aim: Lumbosacral pain is extremely common as age increases. Spinal instrumentation is sometimes recommended for lumbar canal stenosis and disk herniation surgery. This study aimed at studying the frequency of instrumentation in patients referring to our center. Methods & Materials/Patients: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 1200 patients with low back and...
متن کاملComparison of Clinical and Radiologic Outcome of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Treated with Hybrid Hook-Screw Instrumentation versus Universal Clamp System
Background. In surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), hybrid universal clamp system has been used by some authors. We aimed to compare the clinical and radiologic outcome of hybrid universal clamp with hybrid thoracic hook lumbar screw. Methods. A prospective study was performed on 56 consecutive patients with AIS, who had alternatively undergone a posterior spinal fusion ...
متن کاملImpact of instrumentation in lumbar spinal fusion in elderly patients
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE An increasing number of lumbar fusions are performed using allograft to avoid donor-site pain. In elderly patients, fusion potential is reduced and the patient may need supplementary stability to achieve a solid fusion if allograft is used. We investigated the effect of instrumentation in lumbar spinal fusion performed with fresh frozen allograft in elderly patients. ME...
متن کاملThe Effects of Posterior Spinal Fusion in Patients with Limitations of Anterior Approach: The Experience of Six Cases
Background & Importance: Spinal deformity is one of the most common disorders among the vertebral diseases that results from unnatural curvatures of spine, such as scoliosis and kyphosis. Spinal fusion surgery is used most commonly to treat certain types of spinal deformity. Herein, we reported the efficacy of posterior spinal fusion accompanied by instrumentation in patients with the...
متن کاملSurgical treatment of scoliosis: a review of techniques currently applied
In this review, basic knowledge and recent innovation of surgical treatment for scoliosis will be described. Surgical treatment for scoliosis is indicated, in general, for the curve exceeding 45 or 50 degrees by the Cobb's method on the ground that:1) Curves larger than 50 degrees progress even after skeletal maturity.2) Curves of greater magnitude cause loss of pulmonary function, and much lar...
